Founding co-editors Rodrigo Fuentes and Rodrigo Hasbun have put together an interesting lineup of contributors in the short time they’ve been publishing Traviesa, including several writers mentioned in posts here, such as Andrés Barba, Mario Bellatín, and Horacio Castellanos Moya.

Their features are innovative–skype interviews, e-mail exchanges between writers over a period of time, vignettes of places around the world, descriptions of a day-in-the-life of contributors. My favorites are the interviews with Leila Guerriero, Castellanos Moya and Andres Barba, and the email exchange between Patricio Pron and Rafael Gumucio. But it’s all really good stuff.

Anthologies of contemporary writing curated by fellow writers around specific organizing themes are another innovation. Curators to date have included Federico Falco, Liliana Colanzi, and Yuri Herrera.

Traviesa also has an excellent team of translators, headed by Kate Newman, working on making the pieces available simultaneously in English. You’ll find some of the most engaging translators working today on this list. Being able to compare original texts in Spanish with the often brilliant English translations is a great learning opportunity for translators just starting out, and for the more experienced to get a better understanding of the work being done by their colleagues.
