“The author Julián Martínez Gómez was born in Havana in 1985. He is the author of several books as well as a poet.

In 2014, Julio returns to Cuba after spending five years away from his country. On his return flight to Madrid he meets a young attractive German called Sebastián. And this is where everything begins and is reborn, his story and the stories that had been hidden for years.

Another parallel love story taking place in 1981 combines with the story in the present. It is then, during those years in the eighties, when Fernando travels to Berlin from Havana and starts to write in his yellow diary everything that takes place. This is the diary that Julio will later find and that much later, Sebastián can also read. A short time before this happens, in 1989, a plane travelling towards Germany crashes close to Havana airport. There are no survivors, but this tragic accident has a profound and inevitable effect on both love stories. (…)

El amante alemán (The German Lover) is a very sensual novel, filled with truth and above all, love. A sweet love, a crazy love, an impossible love and a love that exists somewhere beyond time and which finds its echo in the present.”
