Trotta, the publishing house of a thousand books

The directors of Editorial Trotta and the bookstore Pasajes de Madrid explain their trajectory. Pasajes and Trotta are the heads of a monster—one of the good ones—dedicated to the protection ofcertain works and genres.

This literary animal was founded in 1990 without too many pretensions (according to Editor-in Chief Alejandro Sierra) but in response to a specific publishing demand: “During that time, some publishing houses that had previously published collections and books of essays, philosophy and political science no longer did so for economic reasons.  We thought it would be sensible to take the baton from these publishers and develop a program for publishing essays and books that highlighted thought and thinking,” the editor revealed. Appearing under the rubric What Does Thinking Mean?, the word Trotta does not mean anything in particular. “It’s a name that is pronounced easily and has no concrete meaning, which endows it with a certain mystery. It’s like a name you invent for a house pet.” Alejandro affirmed, and concluded with a no less pertinent fact:  “Besides, it’s a family last name.” Trotta is a small autonomous and independent publishing house dedicated to the essay genre.
