[His novels] tend to be about families: in other words, about the coercions of a group and the forms of resistance (or pacts) of its individuals; but also about the deterioration of the whole and the effort of some of its individuals to rescue it. His last novel, La buena reputación (Good Reputation), of Tolstoyesque proportions and trajectories, is closer to the former. Meanwhile, Carreteras secundarias (Secondary highways) and Dientes de leche (Milk Teeth), as well as the latest novel, Derecho natural, veer more toward the latter.”
