Antonio Ortuño has won the Ribera del Duero prize for short fiction

“The Mexican has been awarded 50,000 EUR on the prize’s fifth year for his book "La vaga ambición" (Vague Ambition). Ortuño has published «El buscador de cabezas» (2006), «Recursos humanos» (2007), «Ánima» (2011), «La fila india» (2013), «Blackboy» (2014), «Méjico» (2015) y «El rastro» (2016).

April 5th, 2017. According to the decision, which was made public at a press conference, the judge awarded Ortuño (Zapopan, Jalisco, México, 1976) the prize for the ‘author’s command in developing a single theme across every story’ and for his ‘humor, which is never at the expense of emotion’.

A total of 845 authors from 36 countries, mostly from Spain and Latin America, have presented themselves to this biannual award, which is sponsored by the Denominación de Origen Ribera del Duero and the publisher Páginas de Espuma.”
