Los Herederos de la tierra is on top bestsellers lists since its publication. Ten years after having published La Catedral del mar and 6 000 000 sold copies, Ildefonso Falcones returns to medieval Barcelona with a story situated in the district of Raval which in the XVIth c. was a vast stretch of fields towards which the Ciudad Condal was beginning to expand.  It is the time of the effervescent growth of the  corrupt feudal nobility and of the racial and religious intolerance. The principal character in The Cathedral of the Sea, Arnau Estanyol reappears here as a protector of Hugo Llor, a 12-year-old orphan and now the hero of the new story. The young boy abandons the district of Ribera and finds a job with Mahir, a Jew who will teach him the secrets of the world of wines. In this way Hugo discovers his passion not only for the land. He falls in love with a young Jewish girl Dolca, with whom he will share the love not permitted by the norms and customs of the times.

La Catedral del mar is currently being adapted to a TV series. The shooting is finished the post-production has started. In May 2017, Diagonal TV and Antena3 will start to sell the production worldwide through ENDEMON to traditional channels in each country. This is the most important and most expensive production in Spain, with the cost of over 12.000.000 euro. The series is of 8 episodes of 50 minutes each. The tentative date of launch is the last trimester of 2017 in Antena 3 in Spain and in mid 2018 it will be launched internationally by Netflix with 85.000.000 subscribers worldwide.
