Today, April 23rd, is the World Book and Copyright day

On April 23 the world commemorates either the birthand death of prominent authors, that is why Unesco choose the date to celebrate the Book day.

April 23 is a symbolic date for world literature, since April 23, 1616 was the date of death of Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega,” says the UNESCO webpage. “April 23 is also the date of birth or death of other prominent authors such as Maurice Druon, K.Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo.”

UNESCO celebrates this day to “promote reading, publishing and the protection of intellectual property through copyright.” Read about this day and join the celebration, on the UNESCO webpage, by clicking here.
