Options growing for bilingual education in California

Dual language immersion education is gaining popularity across Southern California. Two of the latest offerings are a drop off program at the Zimmer Children's Museum and a new preschool in Pasadena.

Bilingual learning continues its upward trend in Southern California, and the Zimmer Children's Museum is an example with its “Jugando Grande” (Playing Big) five-week program for 3 year-olds. Meanwhile, parents at a Pasadena elementary school are organizing and lobbying for a pre-K that would teach Mandarin.

“Experts say a dual language education helps children develop the focus and mental flexibility of young minds. Immersing preschool- and elementary school-aged children in learning a second language can improve their performance in both languages, according to researchers,” reports Southern California Public Radio.
