Nowtilus and Tombooktu Publishers make history popular, offer fantasy, terror and other non-fiction titles

Santos Rodríguez from Nowtilus and Tombooktu, talked to ARS about what sets each of these publishing companies apart, their new catalogs and the titles they offer to American readers.

What genres does Nowtilus primarily publish?

Nowtilus is primarily a non-fiction imprint with a focus on popular history. Most readers are familiar with our Brief History series (www.brevehistoria.com).

However, we maintain a successful fiction line, both historical and contemporary. Our catalog, however, includes other subject areas, like “seduction”, “true crime”, “health” or “self-help”. See www.nowtilus.com.

Last fall we introduced a second separate imprint “Tombooktu Publishing” which is more literary. Tombooktu is becoming popular as publisher of fantasy, terror, science-fiction, chick-lit. Anyway, because of our expertise, we are also publishing some popular history under the Tombooktu imprint. See www.tombooktu.com.

How can your books be obtained in the United States?

All our titles are available as ebooks and print-books in all major online retailers. Nowtilus and Tombooktu ebooks are actually quite popular in the leading online stores and also through library-market specialized ebook distributors. Our print-editions are manufactured in the US by well know industry leader Bookmasters, which is acting as “master-wholesaler” for us, and represents both Nowtilus and Tombooktu imprints in the USA. With their help, all our print editions are available to all traditional distributions channels and book retailers in the US. Additionally, all our titles are always available as “print-on-demand” titles on Amazon.

What books or collections would you recommend for a readership in the United States?

Definitively I would recommend our “Brief History” series (www.brevehistoria.com). This is the best popular history series today in Spanish for general readers. The titles are both easy to read and authoritative, written by history experts and professors, making them the best books to enjoy and discover world history in an ideal format and competitive price.

Additionally, I would recommend some of the great fiction titles we have released in Nowtilus (like “El Escalón 33”, or “Lyber Hyperboreas”… or the darker and terrific crime thriller “Demiurgo”) and many of the terror, fantasy and science fiction we have recently published in Tombooktu, like “Asimov´s Robot City” and “Asimov´s Robots&Aliens”.

What new books are in the offering for 2013?

We are releasing some wonderful new titles in 2013. Lots of new “Brief History”, like “Cleopatra” or “Napoleon”, “Astronomy” or “Spanish Literature”, “Islam” or “Al-Andalus”. It is remarkable our new title on FRANCO, with an unprecedented graphical documentation, or the twin “Historia Incognita” amazing titles on “Secret Explorers”: “Secret Explorers of Africa” and “Secret Explorers of Asia”. Tombooktu most important new releases are the two ASIMOV sagas: “Robot City” and “Robots and Aliens” (6 titles each saga).

Some readers, though, will very much enjoy “Las fantasias de Sensuaye”, an explicit account of the sexual fantasies of a woman. “Sensuaye” is the woman every woman has inside. Literally exciting.
