Care Santos wins the XXIV Premio Cervantes Chico de Literatura Infantil y Juvenil (Cervantes Small Children and Young Adult Literary Award).

Ecuadorian author, Edna Iturralde de Howitt, has been recognized as an author of Children and Young Adult Ibero American literature.

On July 6 the jury of the Premio Cervantes Chico 2020, presided by the Mayor of Alcalá de Henares, Javier Rodríguez Palacios, agreed to award this prize to Care Santos, “for her long and successful literary career in the children and young adult world.  As proven by her book sales, her work is widely read by young adults and children.”

Care Santos was born in Mataró (Barcelona) and writes in both Spanish and Catalan.  The jury of the Premio Cervantes Chico 2020 emphasizes the originality of her themes, the way she handles her characters and the careful way in which she builds the structure of her tales.  Care Santos is also a reference in the children and young adult literary world, taking care to promote and bring back readers.  She also works on literary workshops and highlights her impressive and tireless effort of promoting literature by keeping close contact with youngsters through workshops and literary encounters.

She has obtained many prizes and acknowledgments throughout her literary career, some which have brought her close to Alcalá de Henares, such as Premio Ciudad de Alcalá de Henares (City of Alcala de Henares Award) for narrative in 1995.  In 1998 she won the Premio Ana María Matute Award for stories; in 1999 the Premio Ateneo joven de Sevilla Award; in 2000 the Premio Gran Angular en catalán Award (in the Catalan language) and in Spanish in 2004. She also won the Premio Edebé Awward in 2003 and 2015; l premio Alfonso de Cossio Award for storybooks in 2003; the Premio Alandar Literary Award for young adult in 2005 and the premio Barco de Vapor in 2009.
