The 33rd edition of La Semana Negra (The Noir Week) has survived COVID-19

The Semana Negra (Noir Week) of Gijón opened last Friday, where 90 writers of different literary genres will participate in the workshops. The events, starting on July 3rd, and lasting until July 12th, will take place under controlled mesures such as social distancing and other cautionary guidelines.

The Semana Negra of Gijon started at 11:00 a.m. with the opening of the book fair and at 6:00 p.m. the doors opened to the exhibition:  Anarchism in scenarios and omnipresent Mori.  The black ribbon was cut at 9:00 p.m. on the entrance of the Book Fair, making the opening of this edition official.  The closing ceremony will take place on Sunday, July 12th, at noon.

The Coronavirus pandemic has altered the schedule of this week full of literary actvities in the city of Gijón.  The organization has had to adapt the show format and even considered its cancellation.  For example, this year the traditional black train arriving at the Gijón train station, with dozens of invited writers and artists on board, will not take place and crowds will be limited.  This year the presence of foreign writers has been scarce, as stated by event coordinators, “The borders are closed and writers are not able to leave their countries to come this year.”
