The RAE (Royal Academy of the Spanish Launguage) and EFE News Agency re-launch Fundéu in order to improve use of the Spanish language by the media.

The RAE and EFE have reached an agreement through a framework collaboration with Fundeu in order to obtain better usage of the Spanish launguage by the media, especially in Spain and The Americas.

The main objective of this agreement is to re-launch the Urgent Spanish Foundation (Fundeu), which once the contract is signed, will be known as FundeuRAE.

History of Fundeu.  In 2004 Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) and Agencia EFE (EFE News Agency) agreed, along with the Real Academia Española (RAE), to create the Fundación del Español Urgente (Fundéu) which operated in the agency since 1980.  Mr. Luis Maria Anson was the Director at the time.

The Foundation, which started in 2005, is in charge of watching over the correct use of the Spanish language by the public media in Spain and all Hispanic Americans wanting to join this project.  During the first stage, the agency analized not only the services of Agencia EFE in Spanish, but also the language used in other means of communication.

Fundéu also publishes reports and studies useful to public media journalists, as well as an annual report with the main problems in the use of the Spanish launguage in journalism.
