Publishing houses have been trying to find new talent among self-published writers; authors who launched their books with only ambition and will power.
Anna Garcia climbed every step of the ladder (blog, self-publishing) before her books were picked up by HarperCollins. “Happy endings,” she says, “stories that leave you with a silly smile on your lips and a warmth in your heart, is just what we all need.”
TL: They say your carreer started with a blog. Is that true?
AG: Totally true. I wrote about everything that went through my head on paper and notebooks that I had laying around the house until my husband got tired of finding them everywhere and set up a blog for me. I don’t know why, because I wrote only for myself, but other people started reading it and word spread. Suddently, I started receiving messages from women all around the world telling me how much they enjoyed my writing.
TL: Blogs are to the literary world as garages are to Information Technology. Without that very first and rocky step would you have been able to publish?
AG: I don’t think so. When I started it was only for myself. But then one of my readers (who later became a friend) encouraged me. I had no idea one could self-publish and my friend was the one who did the layout of my first book and handed everything to me on a silver platter, ready for publication. So I can say for sure, that if not for that blog, I would have never met the person who urged me to publish.
