CEDRO reports. Libraries, copyrights, and cultural promotion

Madrid, April 21, 2020. The libraries in Cataluña celebrated Sant Jordi Day with the initiative, Lletres Lliures, a cycle of readings which, this year took place virtually.

This project was supported by CEDRO, who managed author and publishing copyrights.  Josep Vives i Gracia, Chief Librarian for the Cultural Department of the Generalitat de Cataluña, explained that this initiative, which has been taking place since 2018, “consists of inviting citizens to the seat of the Department in the Rambla área of Barcelona, to read outloud from their favorite literary texts.  Those attending will listen to readings and if they so desire, they can also participate with readings of their own.”

This year, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, “it was done virtually, so that people were able to record them and distribute them through social media,” with the hashtag #LletresLliures. Also, Vives i Gracia declared that “we also invited political, social and cultural figures from Catalunya, so they were able to send their readings and be published in the YouTube channel of Library Services.”
