Mexican writer Amparo Davila, the Mistress of Tales has died.

The Zacatecas-born writer, “undoubtedly the star of Mexican literature of the XX century”, has died at the age of 92.

Announced by several cultural institutions of the Mexican government, author Amparo Davila, referred to as the Mistress of Tales, died this Saturday.

The Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (NBAL) (National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature) referred to Davila as the pioneer of the fantastical tale in Mexico, “leaving a very important legacy to Mexican literature.” The Instituto Zacatecano de Cultura (Cultural Institute of Zacatecas), declared “We regret with great sorrow and mourn the passing of our beloved Amparo Davila (1928-2020), poet and storyteller from Zacatecas, whose work will remian an extraordinary and valued legacy in the literature of our country and our state.”
