Dover Public Library announces Spanish outreach initiatives

The Dover Public Library, 525 N. Walnut St., recently announced three new Spanish outreach initiatives.

Maria Pilar Gonzalez Navarro, a native of Spain, will be at the library from 4 to 5 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays to offer bilingual assistance. She will read letters and other correspondence written in English and translate them into Spanish. She will also make phone calls and fill out applications and other forms, including car titles and school registration forms.

Sherrel Rieger, a retired Spanish teacher, will offer notary services in Spanish from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays. Rieger is also available to assist people with making copies and sending faxes.

Hora de Cuento is a storytime designed for Spanish-speaking infants and children ages up to 5. Storytime in Spanish takes place at 10 a.m. Saturday in the children’s department. Most storytellers are women who are familiar with the Hispanic community, including Sarah King, Liz Yoder, Kathia Lehman and Sherrel Rieger. On the third Saturday of the month, the Newsymom organization sponsors Sarah Robbins as the storyteller.
