Also available in Spanish (“Mamá se va a la guerra”), the book, written by Irene Aparici and illustrated by Mónica Carretero is based on a true story: a mother fighting cancer.

When the author was diagnosed with breast cancer, she decided to face this new stage in life with optimism, and explain to her children, ages 10 and 12, the battle that lay ahead of all of them in a positive way.

"My war is not over,” says the author, “but there is something that I've learned and I would like to share: while one has cancer, life does not disappear. On the contrary, it may intensify to the unsuspected limits. It is a matter of attitude. Wanting to live, knowing that you can die, but wanting to live!”
