‘Los elefantes andan descalzos y no usan paraguas’ (Elephants Walk Barefoot and Don’t Use Umbrellas), by Pedro Touceda, reaches the Top 20 on Amazon/Kindle in the storybook category.

One of the surprises of the year is a self-published book written on Facebook. It sounds like a movie script:

A 60-year-old journalist who has already self-published over 80 different books of short stories which he has sold on the streets of Madrid, while dressed up as a human billboard, decided in September 2018 to create his next book on his Facebook wall. But he had no idea what to write. He tried a few experimental stories, searching above all for some originality and got a mediocre response.

One night he decided to tell a story from his childhood, and then another and another. His friends and followers were ‘hooked’ on these forays into nostalgia, which are filled with strong doses of irony, surrealist anecdotes and also a certain emotional depth. Little by little, his readership grew and readers began to encourage him to compile the stories and release a volume of some of them through a publishing house.
