Writer and publisher Julián Rodríguez Marcos dies

The literary director of Periférica has died aged 50 at his house in a town in Segovia. The writer and literary director of publishing house Periférica, Julián Rodríguez Marcos, has died in Segovia at the age of 50, after suffering a heart attack.

Rodríguez Marcos (born in Ceclavín, Cáceres, 1968) was the literary director of publisher Periférica, which he founded in 2006 with Paca Flores and where he published works never before published in Spanish by authors from all genres and languages. Rodríguez published his own first book of poetry, ‘Nevada’ (Renacimiento, 2000), at the end of the 20th century, followed by his first novel in the twenty-first century, ‘Lo improbable’, (‘The Unlikely’, Debate, 2001).

Throughout his writing career he won a number of prizes including the FNAC New Talent prize for his book, ‘Unas vacaciones baratas en la miseria de los demás’ (Cheap Vacations in Other People’s Misery’, Caballo de Troya, 2004); and the 2006 prize for Critical Narrative Eye with his title ‘Ninguna Necesidad’ (‘No Need’, Literatura Random House, 2006).
