¡Squawk Notes!
September 2012
Of all the beautiful, melodic words in the Spanish language, otoño (or autumn) is one of my favorites.  After our hot, dry summer here in Colorado, it is especially nice to say otoño at last.  To welcome otoño, we are offering special pre-publication pricing our newest audiobook, Gracias/Thanks and The Poet Upstairs, Piñata Books' new release.  See below for details.

Thanks for listening/Gracias por esuchar,

Pam Fochtman

Pre-Order Gracias/Thanks Audiobook Set

Many talents have come together in the production of the bilingual recording of Gracias/Thanks. This sweet, poetic celebration of family, friendship and gratitude was recognized as an ALA Notable book and received a Pura Belpre Honor Award in 2010. The delightful narration will be performed by Rosi Amador, a veteran voiceover artist.  Rosi is also a member of Sol y Canto, a nationally touring, award winning Latin ensemble led by Rosi and her husband, Brian.  The production will include original music by Brian Amador, adding a warm, friendly sound to this sweet book.

Author Pat Mora will lend her voice to the production, narrating the author notes at the conclusion of the book. Pat will record from a studio in Santa Fe, NM and Rosi and Brian will record from a studio in Cambridge, MA.

We are offering the hardcover book and CD set for $25, including shipping, through October 31st.  The book set will ship November 1st.  VisitLorito Books to pre-order.
The Poet Upstairs Available from Lorito!

This beautiful new release from Piñata Books is written by Judith Ortiz Cofer and illustrated by Oscar Ortiz.  It is a magical story about Juliana, a young book lover who is drawn into a poet's world when she moves in upstairs. She learns that the power of words can transform her ordinary apartment into a tropical island of mountains, palm trees, birds and flowers. This book invokes the Puerto Rican poet Julia de Burgos' famous poem about the Loiza River and is an inspiring story for 5-9 year old emerging writers.
Language:  English with embedded Spanish text.
Pre-order The Poet Upstairs from Lorito Books for $15, including shipping. Ship date: December 1st. Visit Lorito Books to order.
