Dominican Republic, guest country at Madrid Book Fair

Historians, academics, anthropologists, sociologists, archeologists, lawyers, journalists, musicologists, literary critics, actors and artists from the Dominican Republic will take part in the activities to be held in El Retiro Park, the Cervantes Institute, Casa de América and Casa de Vacas.

Around one hundred activities will make up the Dominican Republic’s cultural program as the guest of honor at the 78th Madrid Book Fair, which begins on the 31st of this month in El Retiro Park. A program which, organized by the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Spain, will run till June 16th under the slogan “Discover a country of culture!” The Dominican ambassador, Olivo A. Rodríguez Huertas, explained to Efe how this program will showcase the country’s rich literary tradition and will pay homage to three of its literary stars: the humanist Pedro Henríquez Ureña (1884-1946), the writer and erstwhile president Juan Bosch (1909-2001) and the novelist, short story writer and anthropologist Marcio Veloz Maggiolo, 82.
