Antonio Soler receives the 2018 Umbral Prize for best novel, for Sur (South) Umbral’s widow, María España Suárez, hosted the event alongside Manuel Llorente, head of Culture at El Mundo.

Francisco Rosell, director of EL MUNDO, opened the ceremonies. “Like Joyce’s Ulysses, but without the pedantry.”

That is how Fernando Rodrígues de la Fuente, president of the Francisco Umbral Prize jury, described Sur (Galaxia Gutenberg), the novel for which Antonio Soler, author from Málaga, was honored this Tuesday at the headquarters of the Community of Madrid. Sur, chosen as the best book of 2018 by the jury. Soler and his work were lauded at the event by professor and critic Santos Sanz Villanueva and writers Luis Mateo Díez and Manuel Longares (the first two winners of the Umbral).
