In March 2019, Rayuela, the work by Julio Cortázar, will hit bookstores. It is part of the Commemorative Editions series, which was started by the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) and the Association of Spanish Language Academies (ASALE) in 2004 with the publication of Quixote. The book, which will be distributed simultaneously in Spain and in the Americas, will be released to coincide with the 8th International Spanish Language Congress, taking place in the Argentine city of Córdoba from March 27-30, 2019. The publication of Rayuela in 1963 marked a real revolution in Spanish language story-telling. For the first time, a writer takes rule-breaking in traditional narrative structure and language to the very limit. Brimming with literary and vital ambition, groundbreaking in terms of narrative tools, and overthrowing conventional genres, Rayuela is Cortázar to the core, in all his ethical and aesthetic complexity, his imagination, and his humor. The Association of Spanish Language Academies (ASALE), the Argentine Academy of Literature  (AAL) and the publisher Alfaguara, which is part of Penguin Random House Publishing Group, wished to pay homage to one of the Spanish language’s all-time most important writers and his most outstanding work, which rocked the cultural landscape of its time and which is still delighting readers to this day.
