Celebration of the Americas brings community together for Hispanic heritage month

Hundreds of community members spent their Saturday evening enjoying live music, dance performances and food at Chico library’s third annual Celebration of the Americas.

Julissa Wimton, the library’s Spanish program coordinator for adult and children programs, said the event was started three years ago by the Spanish book club at the library. The event was scheduled as a celebration to mark the end of Hispanic heritage month and as a way to promote the library to the Latino community, she said.

While the food is a major attraction, Wimton said, the event has now become a way for people in the community to connect with others who share the same cultural background.
