Clara Janés, winner of the IX José Luis Sampedro Award

The award recognizes the career of authors who accredit excellence and humanist values in their work.

The jury of the José Luis Sampedro Award has granted this award, in its ninth edition, to the writer and translator Clara Janés. The prize was instituted by Getafe Negro in 2009, and Sampedro was its first winner. It is a distinction amongst those authors who have accredited, in any literary genre, a level of excellence, innovation, and outstanding originality. The jury takes into account that the winner reflects in their work commitment, social restlessness, as well as universal values that contribute to the reciprocal understanding of people and individuals; it considers their contribution to the promotion of culture and solidarity, as well as the formation of a critical conscience and the defense of fundamental freedoms and rights; and it values that a humanist tradition is integrated, which, from antiquity to the present day, has impregnated culture and creation, transforming these into a factor of vindication of the dignity and spiritual wealth of human beings.
