The Paraguayan author Carlos Abente, considered an icon of Guaraní poetry, has died at the age of 103 years in Argentina, where he lived for almost a century.

Through a message on Twitter, the president of the Society of Writers of Paraguay (SEP), Bernardo Neri Farina, expressed the "pain" of the society over the death of Abente, whom he called "a poet and philanthropist.”. The Paraguayan writer also pointed out that Abente was "the last of those glorious Paraguayans", such as composer José Asunción Flores (1904-1972) or poet Elvio Romero (1904-2004), both exiled to Argentina, "who honored Paraguay". He is the author of the famous poetic trilogy in Guaraní "Che kiriri asapukái haguã" (To shout out my silence); “Kiriri sapukái” (Shout of silence) and “Sapukái Sunu” (Shout of Thunder).
