The top three self-published Spanish authors who have sold the most books on Amazon

Rut Nieves, Javier Sáenz Pinillos, and Gregorio Hernández Jiménez – are independent creators who appear on best-seller lists of books within the e-commerce network.

A new edition of the Madrid Book Fair, the hottest publishing event in Spain, concluded this Sunday. Over a period of 17 days, hundreds of publishers and booksellers showcased thousands of publications to readers, mainly in Spanish, while they struggle to fight against the current challenges within the publishing market. These are, on one hand, following the wake of a growth in the production of books that was at 4.6% in 2017, according to advance information from the Panorama of Spanish Book Publishing presented by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, and the Observatory of Reading and Books. And, on the other hand, as has been happening for years, the battle against piracy: despite the fact that the consumption of electronic books has grown by 16% in the last year, 80% of Spanish readers who read books in this format obtained this content for free. According to data from the Spanish Centre for Reprographic Rights (CEDRO), for each copy purchased, three pirated books were consumed.
