7.3% increase in 2017 of books published in Spain. 87,292 new titles hit the market last year.

The publishing sector in Spain registered an increase of 7.3% in published works from the previous year, which means a total of 87,292 titles, according the ISBN Agency, whose data was provided by the Federación de Gremios de Editores de España, (FGEE) Spanish Association of Publishers Guilds.

 A 31.3% of that total, or 27,394 titles are digital editions, which translates to an increase of three points with respect to the last activity, “In spite of the slowdown in billing figures” of this industry.

Children, juvenile and educational books (in which textbooks are included) once again made up the great majority of published books, or a 19.8%.  Following were fiction and related topics (17.7%) which is 1.7% more than in 2016, as well as civic and social sciences (13.8%) which is a 5.6% increase.  And next are Medical books (9.2%), Literature and Literary Studies (6.9%), Humanities (6.5%) and Art (4%).
