Ediciones Anaya was founded by Germán Sánchez Ruipérez in Salamanca in 1959. The first publications were text books and educational materials. The company continued growing through 1979 with the creation of Edición Xerais de Galicia, a key company in the development of Galician culture. Then, in 1980 another publisher was born: Editorial Barcanova, which also publishes educational school books.
