Salvador Peña Martín and Malika Embarek have been awarded this Thursday with the National Translation Awards 2017. Peña Martín has been recognized for the Best Translation of 2017, for the work Thousand and One Nights, while Embarek has received it for the Work of a Translator, who values all her career.
In the case of Peña Martín, the jury highlighted his contribution with "the first complete and direct version of Arabic [of A Thousand and One Nights] and the mastery and elegance of Spanish prose and verse". This award aims to distinguish the translation of the previous year of a work originally written in a foreign language to any of the languages of Spain. It is endowed with 20,000 euros.
