‘Libros a la calle’ turns 20

The Madrid Association of Editors (Asociación de Editores de Madrid, AEM), with the sponsorship of the Community of Madrid, the Consortium of Transportation, and CEDRO, have recently pushed forward the twentieth edition of ‘Libros a la calle’ (‘Books to the Street’), .....

an initiative that strives for the survival of books and the promotion of reading in public transportation within the Community of Madrid. The campaign, which was born in Madrid in 1997, invites travelers to discover or rediscover books by offering them selected passages of the best books of Castilian literature, an idea that has already been adopted by numerous cities throughout the world. Their purpose is to foster a desire for reading among the citizenry, to offer them new perspectives on little-known authors and genres, and to commemorate the anniversaries that are celebrated and the literary awards that are bestowed throughout the year.
